“No dream is ever just a dream.”

By Elizabeth

So, I watched Eyes Wide Shut the other night as part of my 101 in 1001 goals to watch and take notes on all of Stanley Kubrick’s filmography.

I think it ranks right up there with Blue Velvet as one of the creepiest movies I’ve ever seen in my life.

After the credits rolled and I’d recovered [somewhat] from everything I’d just seen, I was compelled to write this less-than-100-word review about the viewing experience and enjoyed it so much (writing the review, not watching* the movie) that, between this and my previous post about Lil’ Mama’s “Lip Gloss,” I might just start regularly reviewing movies and music that nobody has thought about from a critical standpoint in years.

Here’s what I wrote about EWS.

Moral of the story: If a friend from medical school that you haven’t seen in years invites you to a party that requires 1) him to play the piano blindfolded and 2) you to arrive in a mask and cloak, just say “pass.” You’ll save yourself more than $500 in costume rentals and cab fees, not to mention the guilt of having possibly caused the death of at least two people, put your own family’s safety in jeopardy and seen things that would make the Marquis de Sade roll in his grave.

* By which I mean I spent approximately 70 percent of the movie peeking from behind a blanket, trembling.
